Day 1 in Jerusalem

Now... I just arrived to the city center and I need to find place to throw my bags, sit down and crack open a local beer. I am not looking for luxury especially on my first day. I started walking down the main artery in Jerusalem, Jaffa Street and suddenly ran into a place with a bright red neon light that read "hostel" - it should have read "home" because my body was exhausted from lugging me and my stuff 3000 miles in the past 24 hrs. I needed a rest. So I walk in the Jerusalem Hostel. Nice place, seems clean, affordable, cool people around. Just the place I was looking for.

I get the key to my room, throw my bags on the chair, lay my body down on the bed and stretch my bones. Yeaaahh!!! I finally have done it. I have begun my journey. I am all alone. Just me and the world. I am going to conquer the planet in 30 days, there is SO much to see, and so little time. I cant relax too much longer since one of the oldest cities that is still occupied is booming right outside my window. I must Experience Jerusalem! So lets GO!

Day 1 - Jerusalem

Jerusalem. The capital city of Israel.

The land of the bible - The Holy Land. Regarded as the center of the world and the promised land by the Jews, revered as the land that Jesus was from by Christians, and respected by Muslims as the land that Mohammad ascended into heaven. What a historic place, it is going to be like a outdoor museum! Ancient ruins, hundred year old homes, there is so much to see and so little time, so I better begin.

Getting to Jerusalem: I will need to take a flight from NY to Tel Aviv. Than from Tel Aviv - I will have to take a taxi to Jerusalem. My journey begins!

Flight into Tel Aviv - usually will take about 10-12 hours, depending on if you stop on the way. I have little time since I am on a world journey so I will take a direct flight into Tel Aviv from JFK. Now that I have landed I must start looking for a taxi to take me to Jerusalem. I hope that the taxi drivers speak English! Great they do. Ok. My cab drivers name is Ariel. He says that his name means "lion of God" in Hebrew. We talk all the way from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. He tells me about some must see places in his country. I didn't have a pen handy so I will have to rely on my memory for the places that he suggested. But either way, Ariel brings me to the center of the New City of Jerusalem. He said that I can find some cheap hotels in town. Great thanks Ariel. The cost was $60 from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Now let the journey begin!

Now I have thought long and hard about where my trip will begin. I live on the east coast in the US, so should I start going west? Maybe head to Europe and start traveling east? How bout where humans originated in Africa? Maybe where civilization sprouted in the Middle East? Yeah, that is what I will do. I am going to start in the land that may be the most fought over piece of real estate in the world. The land that civilization was born in, and the land that is geographically in the center of the world. I will start in the middle. The middle East!

Have you ever wanted to travel the world? To experience adventure in foreign countries, and discover places that you have only dreamt of visiting and actually seeing in real life? We'll I have. And in fact I have thought about traveling around the world so much, that sometimes I just envision myself flying to distant reaches of the globe and starting my adventure. Where would I go first? Jamaica. Known as the capital island of the Caribbean. Imagine paradise in heaven that has made it's way to reality. A truly majestic country with breathtaking views, vibrant people, and fascinating culture. I just spent a week on an all-inclusive resort, http://www.riu.com/, at the Riu Negril. I couldn't have dreamed of a more relaxing and peaceful getaway than what I got there. The service was stunning, the food at the resort was world class, and the entire trip was 5 stars, 5 diamonds rating. We left the resort for a full 1 day journey into the hills to visit Bob Marley's, birth and resting place. An awe inspiring visit to pay respects to one of the worlds most influential musicians.
